Debjani Roychowdhury Board Director
Debjani has over 45 years of experience working in diverse positions and dealing with governments, the corporate sector, civil society and non-profits. Her career began in the UK serving as an Income Tax Officer in Her Majesty’s Inland Revenue Service, 1967-71.
Returning to Kolkata, Debjani joined the US Consulate General in 1974. As Economic Specialist, she covered the east and northeast Indian states travelling extensively within the region. She retired in 2006 after 32 years and took on the responsibility as Regional Director to establish the Kolkata branch of the American Chamber of Commerce in India (AMCHAM, 2006-2011). In 2011, she took charge as Executive Director (2011-2015) to set up the non-profit United Way in Kolkata as part of the United Way Worldwide network of over 1900 United Ways. Currently Debjani is Consultant to a couple of NGOs including United Way Bengaluru for its pan-India project in West Bengal. She also mentors small non-profits as they work to consolidate and formalize operations.
