Kunal Majumdar
Member of Impulse Model Press Lab Core Committee, and India Correspondent of Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ)
Kunal Majumder is a journalist and press freedom advocate focused on politics, democracy, and media capture. Currently, he is on study leave from his role as the India Representative of the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) and is a Knight Wallace Fellow at the University of Michigan, exploring the intersection of press freedom and public policy.
Kunal is a core committee member of the Impulse NGO Network Press Lab in Shillong (Meghalaya) and is empanelled as visiting faculty for journalism at Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi. Since starting his journalism career in 2006, he has worked with Tehelka, Indian Express, Rajasthan Patrika, VICE, and Zee Media. His work has earned him the UNFPA-Laadli Award for Gender Sensitivity, the JanMitra Award for Public Service, and the Statesman Award for Rural Reporting. He has also been selected for the EU Visitors’ Programme in Brussels and the Foreign Correspondents’ Programme in Helsinki.
A graduate in English Literature, History, and Political Science and a postgraduate in Journalism from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, Kunal was born in Dhanbad (Jharkhand). As an exchange student, he spent time at Sciences Po, Paris. Currently, he lives in Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA.
Beyond journalism, Kunal is deeply interested in Tibetan Buddhism as both a practitioner and an academic.
